Jaipur: Nagaur MP and RLP chief Hanuman Beniwal Wednesday called off his agitation after the district administration gave written assurances on key demands, including action against sand mafia.Beniwal said that following detailed talks, which continued till 6am Wednesday with the district collector and superintendent of police, the administration formally agreed in writing to conduct a survey in Riya (Nagaur) to curb illegal sand mining, initiate action against the SDM and mining officials, and ensure disbursal of long-pending insurance claims to farmers. “First round of talks failed; however, after receiving the written assurance, the march was called off. Teams will be deployed for the survey against the sand mafia. All pending works will be completed within the next two to three days,” Beniwal said. The RLP leader launched the protest on Tuesday, marching towards Jaipur with thousands of farmers in a convoy of nearly 2,000 vehicles. The agitation was centred around six major demands, including strict action against illegal mining, compensation for farmers, and settlement of insurance and land acquisition dues. The convoy halted late Tuesday night near the Badi Ghati toll plaza, the last village of Nagaur district on the Ajmer border. A late-night round of talks began around 11.30 pm when Ajmer Range IG Rajendra Singh, Nagaur collector Arun Kumar Purohit, and SP Mridul Kachhawa arrived at the site. A team member said negotiations continued until around 1.30 am, but consensus could not be reached on several issues. On Wednesday morning, the protest was called off after receiving assurance on all the demands. “The agreement includes immediate measures to rein in the sand mafia, disciplinary action against erring mining and revenue officials, clearance of farmers’ pending crop insurance claims, and compensation for land acquired by the Railways, bringing temporary relief to the protesting farmers.”
