Bengaluru: A visit to a café for tea turned nightmarish for a techie couple after burglars broke into their house in HRBR Layout, northeast Bengaluru, and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 30 lakh.The incident occurred at the third-floor apartment of Balaji G, 34, in HRBR Layout II Block, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm Saturday.Balaji and his wife, both software engineers, locked their house and stepped out to a nearby café for tea. When they returned home around 6.30pm, they were shocked to find the main door open and the lock broken.On entering the house, Balaji found cupboards in the bedroom forced open and drawers damaged. The miscreants made away with gold ornaments weighing around 250 grams and silver articles (300 grams), which were kept in the pooja room, along with other valuables.A senior police officer said a case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or place of worship, etc.) and 331 (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking). A team of officials, including fingerprint bureau and scene of crime officials (SOCO), visited the spot and collected evidence.“CCTV footage from the apartment and nearby buildings is being analysed, and efforts are on to nab the burglars,” the officer added.
