Bengaluru police chief sets up SIT to probe realtor's death

Bengaluru: A day after a top Bengaluru realtor was found shot dead in his office cabin in a suspected case of suicide even as income tax (I-T) sleuths were searching the premises, city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh Saturday announced a six-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe the death.Family members of C J Roy, founder of Confident Group with business interests in Karnataka, Kerala and Dubai, have alleged that he was driven to suicide following repeated I-T raids on his business establishments.Meanwhile, the Congress govt in Karnataka seemed split on the scope of the SIT probe. While home minister G Parameshwara said police would, for now, focus on the suicide angle, information technology minister Priyank Kharge blamed the death on alleged harassment by central agencies. “Police will investigate I-T officials in the case, as they were present during the incident,” he said. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar described Roy as a “good businessman” and backed a high-level inquiry.
