BENGALURU: A 56-year-old businessman was shocked after he received more than 200 SMS alerts on his phone recently.On checking the messages, he discovered multiple unauthorised transactions from his two bank accounts. He immediately approached the bank, where officials confirmed that cybercrooks had hacked his accounts and siphoned off around Rs 10 lakh.
Bhuvan (name changed), a resident of HRBR Layout, told East cybercrime police that the transactions happened between 5pm on Feb 4 and 1pm on Feb 5He said the over 200 SMS alerts were mostly related to OTPs and money being debited from his accounts.He said Rs 26,000 was debited from one account and over Rs 9.6 lakh withdrawn in multiple transactions from the other.A senior police officer said the businessman may have accidentally clicked on an APK file sent by the fraudsters, enabling them to siphon off the money.
