Basti. The water level of Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district is currently stable, but its erosion attitude is now increasing the concern of the villagers. According to the Central Water Commission, Ayodhya, the water level of Saryu river remained below the danger mark of 92.730 meters on Sunday and there has been no special change for the last 24 hours. However, the direction of the river is now moving towards harvesting, causing a crisis on the existence of about a dozen villages in the region.

There is an atmosphere of panic in villages like Bisundaspur, Subikababu, Kalyanpur, Bharathapur, Pahan, Sandalpur, Shambhupur and Narsinghpur, situated on the banks of the Saryu River. Near Sandalpur village, the water of the river is flowing along the village and gradually the harvesting is intensifying. In view of the situation, continuous rescue work is being done by the Flood Block Department, in which security works are being done at a cost of about Rs 5 crore to save Sandalpur, Sarwarpur and Kanhaipur villages.

Boulder resort to stop cutting
The water of Saryu river has also reached near Badka Purva and Madarahwa Purva of Maypur in development block Kudraha. An attempt is being made to stop harvesting through boulder pitching here. At the same time, the repair work going on on the Gaura-Safabad embankment has been expedited. The work of laying boulders is going on at a fast pace on the cotter under construction in front of Para village, for which a large number of laborers have been deployed.

Administration vigilant, preparations complete
District Magistrate Ravish Gupta said that at present, the water level of Saryu is stable, but the administration has made complete preparations to deal with the floods. He has instructed the officials of the flood segment that there should be no laxity in the work of preventing harvesting and these works should be inspected by higher officials from time to time.

Along with this, instructions have also been given to provide relief material, means and essential items as per the requirement by contacting the people of the flood affected area.

Meteorological Department expressed possibility of heavy rains
According to the Meteorological Department, light rain may occur with strong winds on Sunday afternoon. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rains from Monday to Friday. If the rain is high, the water level of the Saryu river can rise again, which can make the situation even more serious.
