Bar Council poll leaves many stuck in gridlock in central Delhi

New Delhi: A routine weekday commute turned into a test of patience across central Delhi on Monday as the Bar Council of Delhi election was under way on the high court’s premises.By evening, traffic on C-Hexagon near India Gate, Mandi House and Mathura Road nearly came to a halt. On Google Maps, the routes glowed an unrelenting red as the “+ minutes” indicator kept climbing. Ishani, who was travelling from Chanakyapuri to ITO, left at 3.30 pm and expected to arrive by 4.07 pm. Instead, she remained stationary near Mandi House for nearly 20 minutes. “I finally reached at 4.25 pm. Most of the time, we were just standing in one spot,” she said.As the gridlock persisted, frustration spilled onto social media too. “So much congestion around India Gate. Stuck here for half an hour and the car hasn’t moved even 10 metres,” one user wrote. Another posted, “Complete jam for the last 30 minutes on Mathura Road from Oberoi Hotel to Bharat Mandapam.” Several commuters also flagged what they described as poor management. “Entire India Gate radial choked, so many vehicles parked wrongly, blocking half the road. Huge traffic jam due to Bar Council elections. Cops standing helplessly. Not to mention the littering,” one person wrote. tnn
