Bangalore Turf Club set to move to Kunigal within 2 years

Bengaluru: Bangalore Turf Club (BTC), which has been at loggerheads with the govt since 2010, will move from Race Course Road in the city to the 110-acre Kunigal Stud Farm property.The cabinet, which took the decision Thursday, said the existing 83-acre turf club area will be protected as a lung space, according to law and parliamentary affairs minister HK Patil.

BTC has been given two years to shift. Patil said the state has suffered a loss of revenue for 15 years due to non-revision of the lease amount. The pending amount will be recovered, and in addition, a penalty — 2% of the club’s revenue earned during the period — will be imposed. The govt order is expected shortly.No decision on SIR yetThe cabinet also discussed the Election Commission of India’s special intensive revision (SIR) at length but did not take any decision. The law department has been authorised to study SIR and submit its report to the govt by Feb 28. Based on this, a decision will be taken on whether to consent to the ECI’s exercise.Other cabinet decisions included a one-time settlement scheme for stone quarry owners who defaulted on paying royalty and penalties, and retaining of permanent agricultural zone status in 1,777 acres covering 13 villages near Devanahalli.
