Azadpur banquet hall fire: Caretaker arrested, owner bound down

New Delhi: Four days after a fire broke out at a banquet hall in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur, police said on Wednesday that the caretaker has been arrested and the owner has been bound down.The arrested caretaker has been identified as Tehsil Ahmad, a 53-year-old from Wazirabad, and the bound-down owner as Tushar Malhotra, a 33-year-old from Punjabi Bagh West. The fire was reported on Jan 24 at a banquet hall in the Bada Bagh area. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused before police arrived. Six people were reported to have sustained burn injuries. A case had been registered at Adarsh Nagar police station under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible materials) of BNS.
