New Delhi: Leader of the opposition Atishi has written to Union home minister Amit Shah, seeking an urgent meeting over “the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi”. “Repeated incidents of murder, robbery, gang wars and shootouts are creating fear among citizens. Delhi deserves safety, not silence!” Atishi posted on X on Monday. The former CM said the city was witnessing a “climate of fear and insecurity”, particularly among women, senior citizens and traders, and blamed police delays and a lack of accountability for the situation. “If the country’s capital itself is unsafe, whom should citizens trust for protection?” she asked.Citing a series of recent incidents, the AAP legislator referred to the daylight murder of AAP worker Rachna Yadav in Shalimar Bagh. “Recently, near the residence of CM Rekha Gupta, in BC block, AAP karyakarta Rachna Yadav was shot dead in broad daylight. She was returning home when the criminals first asked her name, confirmed her identity and then riddled her with bullets,” Atishi said. “The incident raises serious questions about witness protection and the failure of the law enforcement system.” The letter flagged the Nov 10 blast near Red Fort, which pointed to “serious lapses” in security. Urging the home minister to intervene, Atishi said urgent steps were needed to restore public confidence and ensure accountability in policing, warning that continued inaction would further erode citizens’ sense of safety. No immediate response was available from BJP.
