ASUS Vivobook S 15 is the company’s poster boy with its entry to the ARM-based device race. Powered by the shiny Snapdragon X Elite, this computing machine is treading the waters of performance-based laptops that heavily bank on AI for the most of its new generation features.
From the looks of it, the Vivobook S 15 could be your typical ASUS laptop with classy design and ASUS-backed software suite. But as the new age of computing machine transpires, and some popular productivity apps are yet to become native to this architecture, will the ASUS Vivobook S 15 stand out as a future-proofed device? And, is it a great choice if you’re looking for a new laptop in the market? Let’s find out in this review.
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 does not fall short when it comes to design and aesthetics. We have a satin metallic gray exterior with perfectly filleted sides and edges. The laptop features a lightweight body, weighing just 1.42 kg, and a slim profile with a 14.7 mm depth.
Its all-metal chassis gives the laptop a premium and minimalist aesthetic. I love carrying this laptop without a sleeve as it turns heads when seen in the wild. The 180-degree hinge also comes as a bonus feature; it adds convenience allowing me to easily share the display during meetings or when I need to discuss and illustrate something using the laptop.
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 is a good-looking workbook, a professional-looking at that. Overall, it is simple and practical. This is very evident on the minimalist ASUS Vivobook branding that can be found on both the lid and the display’s lower bezel. When it comes to ports and buttons, the laptop is quite generous.
We have two USB 4 Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, a microSD card reader, an HDMI output, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack to complete a good set of I/Os. Additionally, it includes a built-in FHD webcam and a surprisingly good microphone. This solidly-built laptop is perfect for individuals who commute frequently and travel often, or for on-the-go professionals.
Keyboard + Trackpad
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 features a chiclet-type keyboard. Typing is generally comfortable; the keys offer good feedback on my fingers. Likewise, the keyboard is pretty cool with its RGB lighting. You can set it to a solid color, a breathing effect, or even a rainbow mode.
The dedicated keys are very useful, such as the Copilot hotkey for easier multitasking and the Emoji key that is fun to use when chatting. It’s the little things like these that make it feel more user-friendly. The trackpad also gets the job done. It is responsive and supports multiple gestures for better workflow.
Display and Multimedia
When it comes to the display, the Vivobook S 15 frames a 15.6-inch OLED display with 2880 x 1620p resolution. It is treated with 120Hz refresh rate and has a 600-nit HDR peak brightness. This display has a 16:9 aspect ratio and offers a good amount of vibrancy and sharpness. The panel is also color accurate, plus the fact that ASUS has fine-tuned the display makes the screen even more engaging with deep blacks and bright whites.
If you’re planning to use this laptop for multimedia consumption, you’re in great luck. The stunning display is coupled by high quality speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. To me, the audio quality is just right for a laptop. The bass could be improved, but the overall sound quality is above average.
With that being said, I watched plenty of YouTube videos with this laptop, especially when I’m having quick breaks from work. It’s also great for watching Netflix and any other video streaming apps due to the larger display.
Performance + Hardware + Benchmarks
Under the hood, this computing machine is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor with a 45-watt TDP. It is expected to deliver top-notch performance and efficiency. According to Geekbench 6 multi-core benchmarks, it’s 21% faster than the Apple M3 chip and runs 16.5% cooler than laptops with x86 architecture.
The processor features a 45-TOPS NPU, making it capable of handling AI tasks with ease. It comes equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X 8448 MHz DDR5 memory and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD for fast and efficient storage. For a laptop, this memory is impressively fast that could rival some of the best performers on the PC segment. Everything is ideal, except that users are only limited to the non upgradable 16GB LPDDR5X.
In our benchmark tests, the laptop tallied high results. The ASUS Vivobook S 15 scored 2378 single-core and 13947 multi-core in our Geekbench 6 CPU benchmark test. In the GPU department, it scored 23504 in Vulkan and 20582 in OpenCL.
In our Cinebench R23 Benchmark, the laptop scored 5035 points in multi-core and 423 points in single-core CPU benchmark.
When it comes to gaming, I can say that it’s quite tricky at this point. As mentioned, the Snapdragon X Elite is an ARM-based chip that deviates from the traditional x64 architecture found in Intel and AMD chips. As of this writing, there remains a limited availability of popular applications specifically optimized for this platform, especially when we talk about gaming titles which are optimized in x86 processors.
Free to play gaming titles like League of Legends or Valorant could not run natively on the laptop. However, Hoyoverse games like Genshin Impact had no issues running on this device. With that out of the way, I could say that gaming with the Vivobook S 15 is enjoyable. I had lengthy sessions of Genshin Impact and did not observe any significant frame drops or heating issues, even when I’m on high graphics settings.
If you’re buying the Vivobook S 15 for productivity, then you’re in luck. I find the laptop very enjoyable to work with. Apps under Microsoft Office, Adobe Lightroom, and Photoshop run natively on this Copilot+ PC. Other essential Adobe apps like Premiere Pro and Acrobat could run via emulation; which could cause slight performance issues. My Canva projects are easy to work with due to the laptop’s large display.
The laptop is blazing fast when we talk about general day to day use. It works quietly and maintains cool system temperatures, thanks to the efficient ARM chip.
Software + AI, Battery Life
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 boots with Windows 11 Home. We have a clean Windows experience here with minimal out-of-the-box software. The laptop comes with several pre-installed proprietary apps, including MyASUS, which is a handy tool for managing your device. It lets you run system diagnostics, monitor battery health, adjust charging status, toggle Function key lock, and use WiFi SmartConnect. One of its standout features is Link to MyASUS, which adds even more convenience for seamless connectivity.
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507) steps up with thoughtful AI features that make daily tasks smoother. As ASUS’ first Copilot+ PC, it includes tools like StoryCube, a media hub that organizes photos into categories, such as scenes, people, and places, and offers views like Grid, Map or Timeline for easy browsing.
For productivity, features like Live Caption and AI Noise Cancellation are especially helpful during online meetings, while tools like Windows Studio Effects and Cocreator support work or school projects.
With Windows Studio, you can easily add filters and effects to your video calls, which is great for regular meetings. You can also turn on live captions from the quick settings, making it helpful when talking to someone in another language.
The laptop packs a 70WHrs Lithium-ion battery that charges through USB Type-C using a 90W adapter with Power Delivery support. Impressively, it can go from zero to a full charge in just under two hours.
Verdict: Should You Buy the ASUS Vivobook S 15 (S5507)?
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED offers a solid balance of design and functionality. Its OLED display provides excellent visual quality, while the capable processor and long battery life make it a reliable choice for everyday tasks. With its lightweight build, practical features, and AI software, it’s well-suited for users who need a portable and efficient laptop. It may not fully support a well curated set of titles in terms of gaming, but it definitely performs way better than its Intel Core counterparts in this segment.
This device stands out for its focus on AI and design, which makes it a good fit for professionals and students who prioritize productivity without compromising style. It’s also best for users who’s trying to futureproof their devices for the great AI-centric features ahead.
