ASI assaulted after liquor seizure in Dahod

Vadodara: A police officer was assaulted on Monday afternoon after a patrol team seized liquor in Jesawada village of Garbada taluka in Dahod district.Police said a team from Jesawada police station, led by assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Siraj Sheikh, had gone to Chharchhoda village in a patrol vehicle after receiving information about absconding accused. While the suspects were not found, the team recovered Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), including beer cans and whisky bottles, from a bag behind a shop.A man identified as Naval Bhabhor was found sitting near the shop and claimed ownership of the liquor. As police initiated seizure procedures and looked for witnesses, another man, Kanti Bhabhor, allegedly grabbed ASI Sheikh by the collar. Women also gathered at the spot and created a commotion. The police team then left for the police station with the seized liquor.When the patrol vehicle reached the market area of Jesawada village, a youth identified as Sarul Bhabhor intercepted it on a motorcycle and allegedly threatened the officer. More people arrived at the spot and allegedly pulled and tore ASI Sheikh’s shirt. Other policemen intervened and managed to free him, after which the group dispersed.ASI Sheikh later lodged a complaint at Jesawada police station. Police said further investigation is underway.
