AQI turns ‘poor’ in Noida & Ghaziabad

Noida: The city’s air quality shifted back to ‘poor’ on Sunday after having worsened to the ‘very poor’ category on Saturday. Visibility remained poor in the morning hours, dropping to 600m in the city. Noida logged an AQI of 252 against Saturday’s 324, while Ghaziabad’s AQI shifted to 243 from 313. In Greater Noida, the AQI shifted to the far-end of the ‘moderate’ range at 200, from 328 the day before. In Delhi, the AQI stood at 265 against 315 on Saturday.According to the Central Pollution Control Board portal, all four air monitoring stations in Noida recorded ‘poor’ air on Sunday. Sector 1 recorded the worst AQI at 281, followed by Sector 125 (AQI 267), Sector 116 (AQI 253) and Sector 62 (AQI 208). In Greater Noida, Knowledge Park-III (AQI 200) was in the ‘moderate’ category while data from Knowledge Park-V was not available.In neighbouring Ghaziabad, Indirapuram recorded the worst AQI at 287, followed by Vasundhara(AQI 278) and Loni (AQI 257) – all three in the ‘poor’ category. Sanjay Nagar recorded the lowest air pollution levels in the city with an AQI of 149 in the ‘moderate’ range.According to Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), surface winds on Sunday came from the south-east direction, reaching up to 12 kmph during the afternoon hours. The wind speed decreased to less than 6 kmph during the evening and night. On Monday, the city will record a generally cloudy sky with shallow fog in many places, and moderate fog in isolated places during the morning hours.
