Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been evacuated from The Lodge, his official Canberra residence, due to a safety threat.
Police were reportedly sent to Mr Albanese’s house about 6pm on Tuesday and the PM was taken to another location.
“A thorough search of a protection establishment has commenced and is still ongoing,” the Australian Federal Police said in a statement.
“There is no current threat to the community or public safety.”
Threats to the safety of politicians have escalated in recent months.
This incident comes after a man was arrested and charged for allegedly throwing a rock and a fake explosive device through the window of Canberra’s well-known Hyatt Hotel last week.
In WA, a Mandurah man is also facing charges of threatening to kill Mr Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns through an online video about a month ago.
