Vadodara: The Vadodara Zone office of the state police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was inaugurated in the city on Saturday by director general of police (DGP) K L N Rao.Vadodara Zone is one of the six ANTF zones in the state. The newly inaugurated office has been constructed near the Food and Drugs Laboratory, close to the MS University Polytechnic.Addressing the media, Rao said the state govt was committed to curbing the drug menace. He said the ANTF operates through four zones covering the state’s major cities, along with the Gandhinagar Zone and a dedicated border zone.Rao said that police in Vadodara have seized contraband worth around Rs 2,000 crore in 600 cases so far. He added that apart from strict enforcement, the department would also focus on awareness campaigns to prevent drug abuse.The DGP said the state government was working towards setting up rehabilitation centres to support those addicted to narcotics, with separate facilities planned for women and children.The zonal offices of the ANTF are headed by officers of the rank of deputy superintendent of police, while the task force at the state level is led by an officer of superintendent of police rank.
