Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to provide boots and socks to about 1.72 lakh students studying in schools run by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board. The decision was taken at a meeting of the AMC standing committee held on Wednesday.Standing Committee chairman Devang Dani said the civic body has approved an expenditure of Rs 5 crore for the initiative. “Boots and socks will be distributed to all school board students, and the distribution drive began from Thursday across various wards of the city,” Dani said.School Board chairman Dr Sujay Mehta said the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board currently manages 453 schools in the city. He added that the state govt has decided to hand over the management of nine schools located in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad districts to the school board, which will now oversee their operations.Mehta also said that the construction of a new school board building in Navrangpura was complete and would be inaugurated soon.
