An Amazon cargo plane went off a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, hitting multiple vehicles and bursting into flames, leading to closures.
In a statement posted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the agency wrote: “21 Air Flight 7598 overran the runway after landing at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 6.”
The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft left Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, it added. The agency is currently investigating the matter.
Neither the FAA nor Miami-Dade Fire officials said it was an Amazon plane. But images published online showed a cargo plane with Amazon Prime Air branding beside a roadway, with two semi-trucks parked nearby, and an Amazon spokesperson later acknowledged it was an Amazon flight.
Other images showed the Amazon plane on its belly and largely intact despite the fire.
