Alwar farmer attacked by leopard survives after killing it with axe

Alwar: In a case of the predator becoming the prey, a leopard attack on a farmer in Kharkadi Kala village of Alwar district Saturday morning ended with the animal being killed after it was struck with an axe by its gravely injured victim. Villagers said 52-year-old Shravan Gurjar was returning from his field around 7am and was in the process of climbing up a tree to cut down some branches when he was pounced upon by the animal hiding in nearby bushes. The leopard inflicted severe injuries with its claws and teeth as it dragged Gurjar some distance away. After a struggle lasting several minutes, Gurjar was eventually able to inflict a lethal blow on the animal with an axe, killing it on the spot. Hearing his screams, another farmer nearby raised the alarm and villagers rushed to the spot to aid the bleeding victim. He was rushed to the nearby Narayanpur community health centre, where he received first aid before being referred to the Alwar district hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. The incident created a sensation in the area, with villagers demanding increased security and better monitoring of leopard movements. The forest department is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
