Allocate funds for Cong poll promises in budget: KTR tells govt

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has asked the state govt to allocate funds to schemes promised by Congress in the run-up to the 2023 assembly elections in the upcoming 2026-27 budget. In an open letter to chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday, KTR said that nearly half the Congress govt’s tenure lapsed, but 95% of promises made by the grand old party remained unfulfilled. He said the patience of Telangana society was wearing thin and demanded that the govt make concrete budgetary provisions this time.KTR alleged that the ruling party came to power in the name of the six guarantees but failed to implement them even after two budgets. He demanded that substantial allocations be made, particularly for women, the elderly, students, youth and farmers who were promised benefits under the guarantees, such as enhancing pensions, Rythu Bharosa, the Maha Laxmi scheme and other promises. The BRS leader further called for dedicated budgetary support for BCs, SCs, STs and minorities in line with the commitments made in various Congress declarations. He said the govt must also clear the pending dues promised to different sections over the past two years. In his letter, KTR reminded the chief minister of Congress promise to grant legal status to the six guarantees and urged the govt to honour that commitment. He warned that if funds are not allocated in the forthcoming budget, BRS would intensify pressure on the govt on behalf of the people, and the party would hold the Congress govt accountable “at every level” in the interest of the people of Telangana.
