Jaipur: Vayam Lamba and Shreyansh Choudhary produced a brilliant performance and entered the final of the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U-15 and U-17) Ranking Badminton tournament being held at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.In the U-15 boys doubles semi-finals, Vayam and Shreyansh of Rajasthan rallied back to down Manan Sharma (Rajasthan) and Sai Sohan Kota (Andhra Pradesh) 10-21, 21-19, 21-18 in an exciting three-game battle.
Earlier, in the U-15 mixed doubles, top seeded Manan Sharma and Inayat Gulati (Punjab) staked their claim for the title by defeating Vishal Uthappa BB and Hansika Rakesh of Karnataka 21-8, 21-9 in the semi-finals.In the U-15 mixed doubles, Satvik Agarwal and Lakshita Bhardwaj ousted Rajasthan’s Shreyansh and Padmaja Singh 21-7, 21-11 to reach the semis.However, they lost to the second-seeded Tamil Nadu pair of J Nidhi Ginti and TMF 21-14, 21-19 in the semi-finals, settling for the bronze medal. In the same age group, Shreyansh and Vayam outclassed Gautam S Nair and Siddharth S Nair of Karnataka 21-14, 21-13.Second seed and title favourite Anvi Rathod of Rajasthan suffered an upset in the semi-finals, losing to fifth-seeded Aryama Chakraborty of West Bengal 25-23, 22-20, 21-19 in a thriller.It was a forgettable day for Anvi as sixth seed Gatha Suryavanshi of Maharashtra thumped Jaipur girl 21-11, 21-7 in the U-17 girls singles quarters.Earlier, Advocate General and Chief Patron of Jaipur District Badminton Association Girdhari Singh Bafna and President of Jaipur District Badminton Association Anil Mehta got introduced to the players.Indian Handball Association secretary Tejraj Singh, Rajasthan Badminton Association joint secretary Mohammad Zakir Hussain, treasurer Choonsingh Bhati, vice-president Manoj Dasot presented medals to the players.Jaipur District Badminton Association treasurer Atul Gupta, JDBA officials Deepak Sharma, JP Bhatt, Zakir Hussain, Sumant Sharma, Manish Kumar and Neel Kamal Jain also distributed medals.
