Hyderabad: The members of the All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) organised a signature campaign against the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.They also raised their voice against the closure of govt schools, in a bid to strengthen public educationSpeaking at a state-level students’ convention organised by the association as part of their signature campaign, PL Vishweshwar Rao, a member of the Telangana Education Commission, said that the condition of the education system across the country was alarming.“The undemocratically imposed NEP 2020 does not contribute positively to the education system and instead promotes privatisation, saffronisation, and centralisation of education,” he added, and assured that he would bring the issues related to students and the education sector to the notice of the govt.Amanchi Nageshwar Rao, professor, Osmania University, who was also at the event, said that the education sector in the state, which was already facing several hardships, would become even more distressing with the implementation of NEP 2020. He highlighted the acute lack of infrastructure, teachers, and funds in govt educational institutions across the state.The AIDSO members said that they will launch larger movements in the future if the govt fails to resolve their issues.“We collected 1.4 lakh signatures and submitted them to the principal secretary of the Telangana govt,” said Ch Sasank, state executive member, AIDSO, and added that around 300 students attended the convention.
