Alert bank staff save retd LMC officer from 35L digi arrest fraud

Lucknow: Timely intervention and alertness of bank officials saved a retired municipal corporation official from falling prey to a sophisticated cyber fraud attempt involving a digital arrest of Rs 35 lakh.According to officials at the Bank of Maharashtra’s zonal office in Lucknow, the incident took place around 11am on Feb 6 when a customer, Chhedilal Patel, who retired from the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), visited the branch.

While seated in the customer waiting area, he received a call from cyber fraudsters who claimed that financial transactions linked to him were under investigation in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack.To intimidate Patel, the fraudsters shared with him personal details, including his Aadhaar and PAN numbers, besides other confidential information.The call continued for nearly one-and-a-half hours, during which Patel got anxious and started sharing his additional personal details.Bank staff observed him moving in the waiting area while continuously speaking on his phone.
