Amritsar: Expressing concern over the alleged haste shown by the police and the Punjab govt, officiating jathedar of the Akal Takht Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj directed all concerned to exercise complete restraint and refrain from politicising the sensitive issue related to the case of 328 missing saroops of Guru Granth Sahib. In a strong directive issued from the Akal Takht on Monday, Giani Gargaj said the Punjab Police’s special investigation team (SIT), concerned parties, or their legal representatives had no right to hold press conferences, allegedly distort facts, encourage media trials or politicise the issue.
Such actions, he said, only create confusion among the Sikh sangat and undermine the sanctity of the matter. He also took note of information leaks whenever the police proceeded with inquiry-related actions, stating that the circulation of planted news reflected an irresponsible and non-serious approach, adding that the undue haste shown in viewing the saroops and the govt’s hurried release of unverified information aggravated the situation.Giani Gargaj categorically stated that no party, institution, or person had the authority to indulge in politics, level allegations, or issue statements in connection with the case while the investigation was still underway. He stressed that undue haste and premature disclosures by the police and the govt deeply hurt Sikh sentiments and risked disturbing law and order in Punjab.Giani Gargaj pointed out that despite clear instructions, certain concerned parties continued to make statements and allegations, while media and social media platforms were used to conduct “trials”, which was in complete violation of the spirit of the directions issued by the Akal Takht. He further said until the investigation was completed and the truth comes out, it was unethical for any party or media outlet to interpret facts, construct narratives, or pronounce judgements.MSID:: 127863267 413 |
