AHMEDABAD: A woman was allegedly killed by her stepson after she refused to give him money. Devendra Chunara, the accused, was arrested by Anandnagar police after a complaint was filed by the victim’s daughter.Gita, 27, stated in her complaint with Anandnagar police that she had been living with her mother, Kapila Chunara, near Ropda Lake in Anandnagar, since her husband’s death in March last year.According to the police complaint, the accused, Devendra Chunara, is the son of Kapila’s second husband, Mukesh Dantani. Gita stated in her complaint that, after her husband and elder brother passed away, Devendra began frequently arguing with Kapila and demanding money. The complaint stated that he sought funds to redeem a mortgaged house in Makarba.“On Friday night at around 10pm, Devendra came to Kapila’s house and demanded money again. He asked for money to have the mortgaged Makarba house released, and then picked a fight,” the complaint stated.During the argument, Devendra allegedly attacked Kapila with a wooden stick, striking her on the head and other parts of the body. Hearing the commotion, neighbours gathered and reached the spot to find Kapila profusely bleeding, the complaint said. Mukesh, Kapila’s second husband, arrived at the spot and called the emergency services. Kapila was taken to Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.According to the complaint, before her husband died, Gita lived with her mother. However, fed up with Devendra’s behaviour, she moved to a nearby rented house. After her husband passed away, she came back to live with her mother.
