Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old woman labourer allegedly died by suicide inside the Sabarmati Ashram educational complex in Ranip on Saturday. Police said the woman, identified as Rita Nisad, lived and worked at a site that is being developed on the Gandhi Ashram campus. She belonged to Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. According to preliminary information, she was found hanging in a tin shed room that was set up on the site to house labourers.“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. She allegedly tied a sari to an angle in the shed and ended her life sometime before 4.45pm,” a police officer said. The exact reason behind the extreme step is not yet known. Ranip police registered an accidental death report and initiated an inquiry. Police said statements of co-workers and site supervisors would be recorded to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.In a separate incident the same evening, a teenage construction worker died after falling from the second floor of a building under construction in the Sola area. The victim, identified as Shambhulal Damor, 16, worked at a new building project on New Judges Bungalows Road. Police said Damor, a native of Rajasthan, was working on a ledge outside a second-floor window when he lost balance and fell to the ground. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sola Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.Sola High Court police registered a case of accidental death and launched an investigation.
