Ahmedabad: On Thursday, the city celebrated its 615th Foundation Day by holding several events that honored its rich history dating back to 1411. In the morning, hundreds of citizens participated in a vibrant procession which started from the historic Bhadra Kali Mata Temple and circled back after travelling through the narrow, heritage-filled lanes of the Walled City. The atmosphere was electric as traditional band parties and local akhadas also participated along the route, showcasing the city’s unique cultural blend of devotion and martial arts.Simultaneously, the traditional change of flags took place at Manek Burj near Ellis Bridge, a site of immense symbolic importance as the foundation spot of the city. The ceremony was led by the descendants of Mahant Manek Nath Baba, alongside city mayor Pratibha Jain and other prominent citizens who gathered to pay their respects to the city’s origins. To further commemorate the milestone, several city-based organisations and NGOs also marked the day with specialized events, including heritage awareness programmes and community gatherings, ensuring that the legacy of Ahmedabad continues to inspire future generations.
