Agriculture officer, driver held for accepting bribe in Muzaffarpur
Bihar’s Special Vigilance Unit apprehended Muzaffarpur’s in-charge district agriculture officer, Himanshu Kumar, and his driver, Rambabu Rai, for accepting a Rs50,000 bribe. A fertiliser shopkeeper’s complaint about harassment and license cancellation threats led to the sting operation. Both are in custody, with further investigations into their assets underway.

Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar Police arrested Himanshu Kumar, sub-divisional agriculture officer-cum-in charge district agriculture officer, Muzaffarpur, and his driver, Rambabu Rai, on Tuesday for accepting a bribe of Rs50,000.A trap was laid following a complaint lodged by a fertiliser shopkeeper at the SVU office in Patna. The complainant accused Himanshu of harassing him under the pretext of an inspection and threatening to cancel his shop’s licence unless a bribe of Rs50,000 was paid through his driver, Rai.After the complaint was received, SVU officers carried out a verification and an inquiry, which confirmed the bribe demand. A trap team was then constituted under the supervision of DSPs Bindeshwar Prasad and Sudhir Kumar.On Tuesday, as soon as the driver accepted the bribe money from the complainant in Muzaffarpur, the vigilance team, already positioned at the spot, apprehended both accused. .An FIR was registered at the Patna vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). “Both the accused are in custody. The SVU team is now probing the accused’s other possible corrupt activities and conducting an investigation into their alleged possession of disproportionate assets,” the officers said.
