Guwahati: Just days after the Ganeshpara robbery unsettled residents, thieves struck again on Friday, targeting an apartment complex in the Beltola area of Guwahati and looting valuables from two homes. The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of residential complexes in the city. The Ganeshpara robbery occurred on Jan 19.Police said the burglaries occurred in the early hours at Nirupama Enclave, Chilarai Path, while residents were asleep. Kapil Pathak, officer-in-charge of Basistha police station, identified the affected homeowners as Dibyajyoti Nath and Manomaya Devi. “Both work outside Guwahati and were not present during the incident. They have been informed and will join the investigation,” he said.
The miscreants, faces covered and equipped with burglary tools, broke the locks to gain entry. “We cannot confirm the exact number of culprits yet. CCTV footage will provide clarity, but we suspect five or fewer persons,” Pathak added. Police are still assessing the value of the stolen items, as the homeowners are yet to confirm what is missing.Residents said the incident occurred between 2am and 3am. Gautam Bora, a resident of the complex, said, “CCTV footage showed three masked men roaming around. They avoided occupied flats but broke into two vacant homes in Block A. Despite sufficient lighting, the incident happened when the security guards had dozed off due to exhaustion.”Police arrived in the morning, spoke to residents, and they have started their investigation.
