“We arrested seven more people overnight in connection with the incident, including prime suspect Babusona. The arrests were based on credible source information and CCTV footage analysis. The accused were taken into custody for further investigation. More arrests are likely,” said Joint CP Rupesh Kumar (crime & traffic). The last to be arrest was Chanchal Naskar alias Sonu, 20, a close aide of Pappu’s rival Bapi Halder. In the FB video, Pappu was seen inside a car. He began by stating that he did not like going live but felt compelled to do so, explaining that since Sunday, he was getting calls over the alleged trouble. Pappu claimed he was not at the scene on Sunday night, as he was observing a religious ceremony at home, which was captured on his home’s CCTV. He questioned how he could have been involved in the trouble if he was at home.Pappu, questioned about his photo with Babusona, responded by questioning the logic of guilt by association. He compared it to other instances where individuals were not held accountable for others’ actions, dragging the names of PM Narendra Modi and leader of opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. Furthermore, Pappu criticised Adhikari, who reportedly alleged that Pappu stopped his rallies, claiming that Adhikari’s party lacked presence in south Kolkata.Pappu also defended his own financial status, citing his family’s gold business, claiming he too was a businessman.
