Lucknow: The number of fatalities in road accidents involving UPSRTC buses came down to eight in Jan this year as compared to 23 recorded in the corresponding month last year.Similarly, the number of people sustaining injuries also went down to 27 as compared to 55 in Jan last year.The figures came to light during a review meeting chaired by managing director, UPSRTC, Prabhu N Singh, and attended by regional managers and assistant regional managers of all 20 regions on Wednesday.The UPSRTC MD directed full adherence to road safety standards to reduce accidents.“Clear instructions have been issued from headquarters that drivers should not be sent on the road without training. They should be made aware of traffic and road safety rules and counselled regularly. Additionally, breathalyser tests should be conducted on drivers,” the MD said.The progress of construction of bus stations in various districts was also reviewed in the meeting. He said that for allotment of land to depot workshop in Hamirpur district, about Rs 3.45 crore was released as the first instalment against about Rs 6.9 lakh.Similarly, about Rs 1.52 crore was released as the first instalment for the reconstruction of a bus station in Siddharthnagar district, about Rs 1.5 crore for the bus station to be reconstructed in Chandausi and about Rs 1.5 crore for the reconstruction of Salon bus station in Rae Bareli district.
