Surat: The 58th convocation ceremony of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) was held with grandeur at the university’s convention hall under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Kishorsinh N Chavda. Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakia attended the ceremony as the chief guest.Degrees were awarded to a total of 8,726 students from various disciplines, with the commerce faculty accounting for the highest number at 3,707 graduates. In addition, 150 students were conferred PhD and MPhil degrees. The university announced that all degrees were uploaded to DigiLocker (National Academic Depository) immediately after the convocation.A moment that drew special attention was when Dholakia honoured a two-feet tall PhD degree holder Vrundani Patel by kneeling down while presenting her degree.Chavda, in his address, stressed the importance of integrating education with culture, ethics and social responsibility. He said the university was committed to empowering youth through effective implementation of the National Education Policy, technology-driven transparent systems, skill-based certificate courses and strengthened placement initiatives.Apart from commerce graduates, degrees were also awarded to 1,605 students from the arts faculty, 192 from education, 996 from science, 186 from law, 782 from medical sciences and 1,317 from computer science.
