City gets 2 new auto routes to facilitate last-mile connectivity

Kolkata: Two new auto routes — Babubazar to Mominpore and Rajabazar to Topsia — were granted permission, with a maximum of 75 autos allowed to ply, following a recent notification issued by the transport department to improve connectivity off the main arterial roads. The order, signed by transport department secretary Soumitra Mohan, said the approvals were aimed at facilitating public commute and expanding last-mile transport options.One route will operate from Babubazar Tram Depot to Mominpur Stand, with a cap of 25 permits. Autos on this corridor will run through Bhukailash Road, Ekbalpur Road, Ibrahim Road and Brown Field Road before reaching the terminus. No auto will be allowed to use DH Road.

The second route was approved from Rajabazar Tram Depot to Topsia, with permission for 50 autos. The route includes Canal West Road, Beleghata Main Road, Pottery Road, Gobra Road and Lal Baba Mazar, extending up to the 24 Number Bus Stand. The traffic police has provided the required NoC for both routes, sources said.To prevent bottlenecks near Rajabazar crossing, the transport department directed that the auto stand be shifted to the south of the crossing.
