Tripura milestone: State crosses 8MW of solar power generation

Agartala: Tripura’s renewable energy sector has achieved a milestone with the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, enabling the state to surpass 8 megawatts of solar power generation. With traditional power stations facing challenges due to natural gas shortages, rooftop solar installations are emerging as a reliable alternative. Across Tripura, households are transforming into micro power generators, feeding sustainable energy directly into the grid, said Biswajit Basu, the managing director of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).He said as many as 2,350 electricity consumers have installed solar panels on rooftops, tin sheds and open spaces under this scheme, resulting in a collective generation of over 8MW of electricity, which TSECL aims to scale up solar capacity to 50MW by 2027.Basu also highlighted that 2,053 consumers have received govt subsidies amounting to Rs 17.27 crore. The financial benefits are evident, with several households achieving zero electricity bills and some earning extra income by supplying surplus power back to the grid.
