EC defers SIR meetings scheduled on March 1-2

Kolkata: Meetings of district election officers and police superintendents with senior deputy election commissioners, scheduled in Kolkata on March 1 and 2, have been deferred, the Election Commission said on Wednesday. The primary agenda of the meetings was to review preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. According to sources, the meetings were deferred at the request of Bengal chief electoral officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal.On March 1, a Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup between India and the West Indies will be held at Eden Gardens. The ISL derby is also scheduled on that day. On the same day, BJP is scheduled to start its Rath Yatra in Bengal. SSC written examination for the recruitment of non-teaching staff (Group C) will also be held across the state on March 1, and more than 800,000 candidates are expected to appear for the examination.
