5.73 lakh more voters on final roll for panchayat polls

Jaipur: State election commissioner Rajeshwar Singh Wednesday said the final published voter list for elections to panchayati raj institutions has a total of 4.02 crore voters, 5.73 lakh more than in the published draft list. The voters comprise 2.08 crore male, 1.93 crore female, and 207 transgender, Singh said.Singh said Banswara district recorded the highest increase of 4.5% from the voters on draft list, followed by Phalodi with 4.4% increase, while Tonk recorded the minimum increase of 0.04%, followed by Sriganganagar at 0.19%.Singh said the draft list was published on Jan 29, and after disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral roll was published Wednesday. According to Section 18(1) of Rajasthan Panchayati Raj Act, 3 types of voter lists were prepared—voter list of each ward of gram panchayat, voter list of each constituency of panchayat samiti, and voter list of each constituency of zila parishad. He said the draft list had 3.96 crore voters. After revision, 1,366,435 voters were added, 792,867 voters were removed, and the net increase was of 5.73 lakh voters.
