Darbhanga: The Indian Census, regarded as one of the most comprehensive exercises in the world, will be conducted in 2027 in two phases, Darbhanga DM Kaushal Kumar said at a press conference here on Wednesday.He said the first census in India was conducted in 1872 at different times in different regions, while the first synchronous (simultaneous) census was held in 1881. Since then, it has been conducted every ten years. Census 2027 will be the 16th since 1872 and the eighth after Independence. The 2021 census was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.The first phase — house listing and building enumeration — will be carried out from May 2 to May 31, 2026. Enumerators will conduct door-to-door visits, and the entire process will be digital, with data collected through an app and the CMMS portal.A self-enumeration facility will also be available from April 17 to May 1 2026, during which residents can answer 33 questions through the mobile app.The second phase, the population enumeration (real census), will take place from Feb 2 to Feb 28, 2027.The district administration has completed all preparations. A District Level Census Committee (DLCC) has been constituted under the chairmanship of the DM-cum-chief census officer. Manoj Kumar, ADM (revenue)-cum-district census officer, will serve as the senior nodal officer of the District Census Cell, while Uday Narayan Prasad, district statistical officer-cum-additional district census officer, has been designated as the nodal officer.
