Ludhiana: In a move to enhance passenger comfort and diversify revenue streams, the Ferozepur division of Northern Railway launched a new food van service at the Ludhiana railway station on Tuesday. Strategically stationed in the circulating area near the unreserved ticket office, the facility operates under the railway’s non-fare revenue model. The primary objective of the initiative is to ensure that travelers have immediate access to hygienic, high-quality, and budget-friendly meals without having to leave the station premises. The mobile kitchen offers an extensive menu designed to cater to various palates and schedules, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. In addition to traditional meals, the van serves a variety of fast food, fresh juices, soups, and convenient packaged food items, all priced at competitive and reasonable rates. This curated selection aims to provide a one-stop dining solution for the thousands of commuters who frequent the station daily.Senior divisional commercial manager Paramdeep Singh Saini highlighted that the service would be especially beneficial for long-distance travelers and those holding waitlisted tickets who may spend extended periods at the station. He further noted that this project serves a dual purpose: significantly upgrading passenger amenities while simultaneously strengthening the railway’s non-fare revenue sources. Based on the success of this pilot, the department plans to expand similar food van services to other railway stations in the future to further streamline passenger convenience across the division.
