Varanasi: A team of Sonbhadra police forfeited Rs 4.5 crore worth of immovable assets in Varanasi, linked to a codeine cough syrup smuggling case. The properties, including those belonging to syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal’s father Bhola Prasad, were forfeited on Tuesday evening.Sonbhadra police also displayed notices at the houses of Shubham and his two close aides, Nishant Kumar Gupta alias Ravi Gupta of Bhadohi and Vijay Gupta of Kabirchaura in Varanasi, asking them to appear before them by Friday to avoid forfeiture of their movable and immovable properties.

Sonbhadra superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Verma said after approval from SAFEMA Court, Delhi, the immovable properties of Bhola at Bharlai in Shivpur and Jagdishpur in the Pindra area of Varanasi were forfeited under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. As Shubham and his aides, including Nishant and Vijay, are still absconding, a team of Sonbhadra police reached Varanasi following a proclamation order issued by the court of the Special Judge and posted notices at their residences. These notices stated, “In case of non-appearance by Feb 27, action to forfeit movable and immovable properties will be taken.” Properties worth over Rs 44 crore of Shubham’s father, who is currently lodged in jail following his arrest from Kolkata airport in Nov 2025, and their close aide Manoj Yadav have already been forfeited.
