Gandhinagar: The state govt earned revenue of Rs 116.39 crore over two years from the sale of alcohol at permitted liquor shops in hotels in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the state government told the assembly on Wednesday.In a written reply to a question by Jamalpur-Khadia Congress MLA Imran Khedawala, the govt said that 32 hotels in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar were granted permits to sell alcohol. In the past two years, the revenue of the govt from the sale of liquor at permit shops stood at Rs 116,39,62,900.Earlier in the week, during Question Hour, the Gujarat govt said that the number of applications for new liquor permits in Ahmedabad increased by 227% in one year. As many as 292 new liquor applications were made between Jan 21, 2024 and Jan 20, 2025, while between Jan 1, 2025 and Jan 20, 2026, the number of new applications made for liquor permits was 956.
