Jharkhand crash: Co-pilot cremated in Amritsar

Amritsar: The mortal remains of co-pilot Swarajdeep Singh, a resident of Gobind Nagar, arrived here on Wednesday, following which his last rites were performed on Wednesday. The young pilot lost his life in the air ambulance crash that occurred in Jharkhand. A large number of people, including leaders from various political parties, attended his funeral procession today to bid him a final farewell. Swarajdeep Singh was married about 2 years ago and is survived by a 4-month-old son.

According to the family, his last conversation was with his uncle, Ranjit Singh, during which he said that he was being called for duty and had to leave. His family includes his grandfather, Sahib Singh, father, Amrik Singh, and others. The air ambulance, which transported a burn victim from Ranchi to New Delhi, crashed in Jharkhand’s Chatra district on Monday night, killing all 7 persons, including co-pilot Swarajdeep Singh and other crew members, on the spot. MLA Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar also attended the funeral. Speaking to the media, he expressed deep sorrow, saying that families raise their children with love and care, spend money and effort on their education, but such tragic incidents shake the entire society.Nijjar said that there are many shortcomings in the system that must be acknowledged and corrected.
