CCTVs stolen from UP Board exam centre in Jaunpur

Varanasi: Some masked miscreants raided a UP Board examination centre — Horil Rao Inter College in Pawara area of Jaunpur district — on Sunday night and stole two CCTV cameras installed to keep vigil during exams. Based on the footage captured by other cameras, police are trying to identify and nab the accused.Jaunpur’s Pawara police station in-charge Anil Kumar on Tuesday said that two CCTV camera — one at the main entrance gate of the college and another in the staff room — were stolen by the accused. Based on the footage captured by other cameras installed on the campus, police are trying to identify the accused.Speaking to TOI, UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh said, “All the exam-related material, including the question papers and answer sheets, kept in the strong room are safe.”He said cameras have been replaced by the centre administration.Police said thieves broke into Horil Rao Inter College, bypassing security measures meant to prevent cheating during board exams, and stole CCTV cameras by entering through a ventilator.On Monday morning, college staff found a ventilator broken and two CCTV cameras gone when they arrived for exam preparation. The school management alerted the police, suspecting the thieves targeted the cameras to disrupt the exam surveillance system, as nothing else was touched.
