Pune: Residents of a housing society at Indrayaninagar in Bhosari on Sunday morning apprehended one of the two burglars when they were driving away with valuables from a locked flat.The duo had threatened the residents with a country-made pistol and sharp weapons in an attempt to escape, but in vain. A resident and a relative of the watchman of the society suffered minor injuries.The arrested accused, Sagar Singh Andhrele (30), is from Jalna. A search was on for his accomplice, the Bhosari police said. A 52-year-old assistant vice-president of a private company in Alandi lodged a complaint with the police. Two silver coins and Rs55,500, collectively worth Rs57,500, were stolen from his flat.An officer from the Bhosari police said the complainant and his wife went out for a walk around 7.15am on Sunday. One of his neighbours called him around 8am and told him to rush home as someone broken into his flat. “When the complainant reached his society, he found that his neighbours had caught a person. He also noticed that one of his neighbours suffered a cut on his left forearm,” the officer said.He said the complainant’s neighbours told him that the two men had broke into his flat. The other residents of the society tried to stop the duo’s motorcycle when they were driving away with the booty. “The duo, holding knives and a country-made pistol, threatened the residents with dire consequences if they blocked the way,” he said.The officer said the residents still nabbed one of them. The accused on the run assaulted one of the residents of the society with his knife. “He pointed a country-made pistol towards the residents, but the magazine slipped from the pistol. Seeing that, the residents rushed towards the duo. The accused carrying the pistol scaled the compound wall and escaped. The residents nabbed Sagar Singh, and alerted the flat owner and the police,” the officer said.He said in an attempt to nab Singh, a relative of the building’s security guard suffered injuries to his right little finger. “The accused also suffered injuries,” he said.The police have registered a case under sections 305 (theft in dwelling house) and 331 (3)(7)(ca) [causing grievous injuries while committing house trespass] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. “Our investigations are on,” the officer said.
