Sacha Sauda Samagam ends with message of unity

Kolkata: The annual Sacha Sauda Samagam 2026, organised by Gurdwara Behala in New Alipore, concluded on Monday with a display of devotion, unity and service.The two-day congregation commemorated the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev, particularly the institution of langar, which symbolises compassion and selfless service. The term ‘Sacha Sauda’ recalls the act of the young Guru Nanak, who used Rs 20 given by his father to feed a starving village. The event featured kirtan and kathas by religious figures. Among the guests were Singh Sahib Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa (head granthi of Sis Ganj Sahib, New Delhi), and Hazoori Ragi Bhai Jitander Singh from Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and Sis Ganj Sahib, whose hymns and discourses moved the audience.Giani Balwinder Singh, head granthi of Gurdwara Behala, along with Bhai Subash Singh, Hazoori Ragi of the gurdwara, delivered Gurmat Vichaar sessions emphasising humility, equality, and service as guiding principles. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed her heartfelt greetings to the Sikh community. Among those present were Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, minister-in-charge, govt of West Bengal; Abdus Sattar (chief advisor to CM of West Bengal); Mala Roy, MP and chairperson of KMC; Debasish Kumar, MLA and MMiC; Tarak Singh, councillor and MMiC, KMC; Ashim Bose, MMiC, KMC; Kakali Bag, councillor, KMC; Anjan Das; Amit Singh, councillor; and other representatives.“In a world divided by greed and difference, the message of Sacha Sauda calls us back to our shared humanity — to serve without discrimination, to give without expectation, and to love without boundaries,” said Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, general secretary of Gurdwara Behala and West Bengal Minorities Commission Member.
