Gurugram University opens clinic for mental health counselling

Gurgaon: A clinic for mental health services was launched at Gurugram University during the inauguration of ‘Samanvay 2026′ on Monday. The clinic, named ‘Mano Sukoon Clinic’, will begin services next week and will cater to university students as well as the general publicUniversity officials said a licensed clinical psychologist will be hired from outside and will be available at the clinic along with two psychiatrists. Nominal charges will be taken to ensure that professional mental health services remain affordable and accessible to all sections of society.The clinic has been established by the department of psychology in collaboration with the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHABS) and Gurgaon police. It will provide counselling, psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment under one roof.Officials said the clinic will offer individual counselling sessions, therapy for stress, anxiety and depression, and guidance for families dealing with emotional or behavioural challenges. Psychological testing and referral services will also be provided where required. Outreach programmes are planned in nearby schools and communities to raise awareness about mental well-being and reduce the stigma associated with seeking help.Vice chancellor Dr Sanjay Kaushik said prioritising mental health is important as psychological challenges are increasing across age groups. “Universities must move beyond academics and contribute to society by connecting research with real-life needs. Mano Sukoon Clinic reflects the university’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility,” he said.Through regular counselling services, workshops and awareness programmes, the clinic aims to promote emotional resilience, encourage open discussion on mental health and create a supportive environment for those seeking professional help.
