Lucknow: UPCC president Ajay Rai wrote to PM Narendra Modi, seeking a ‘free, impartial and transparent’ probe into Pocso case registered against Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, and urging protection of constitutional provisions relating to religious freedom. In a letter dated Feb 23, Rai referred to media reports about the filing of an FIR under Pocso Act against the Jyotish Peeth Shankaracharya. While stating that court directions must be respected, Rai said the timing and circumstances of the case raised ‘serious questions and apprehensions’ in society.Rai urged that the background of the complainants, surrounding circumstances and possible motivation be examined thoroughly.
