Varanasi: A notorious cattle smuggler, Bablu Nat, was injured and arrested following an encounter in Husainabad area under Bansdih police station in Ballia district late on Sunday. Ballia CO (Bansdih) Jayshankar Mishra said that Bablu first managed to escape when police intercepted their cattle-laden vehicle on Feb 8 and arrested one of his associates. Since then, police teams carried out raids at his possible hideouts.On Sunday night, Bansdih police received inputs regarding his movement and soon installed barriers to check vehicles and passers-by. During the drive, accused Bablu was spotted coming on a motorcycle, when the police signalled him to stop at Husainabad. However, he tried to flee after opening fire at the police team. In retaliatory action by police, he suffered a bullet injury in his leg and was caught. After recovering a motorcycle, pistol and cartridges, police admitted him to a hospital.
