100kg rasgullas destroyed, over 11,000 oil packs seized in pre-Holi drive

Noida: Around 100kg of rasgullas were destroyed at a sweet shop in Sector 62 after food safety teams found them stored in unhygienic and contaminated conditions during a pre-Holi drive in GB Nagar. Assistant commissioner (food) Sarvesh Kumar said the action was taken at Samyak Mithaiwala in Rasulpur Nawada. “A food safety team found rasgullas polluted and infested with mosquitoes. 1 sample from the sweets was collected and sent for laboratory analysis. The remaining stock, about 100 kg, was destroyed on the spot,” he said. On the same day, officials inspected Janaki Ballabh Foods Private Limited in UPSIDC Industrial Area, Site 5, Kasna, Greater Noida, and found edible oil containers bearing the fortification logo without actual fortification, which is mandated by FSSAI for vitamins A and D. “During an inspection… the products bore the fortification logo but fortification was not conducted. The staff were also unable to provide details of the batch number of the oil being manufactured here,” Kumar said. A total of 291 tins of refined soybean oil, 3,968 pouches of refined soybean oil and 6,995 pouches of refined palmolein oil were seized. Three samples were collected for lab tests. Officials also seized 91 tins (15 kg each) of expired Nutrilive Gold refined palmolein oil allegedly meant for trading by another company. “1 sample was drawn, and all 91 tins were seized,” Kumar said. Earlier, at Shyam Traders in Accher Market, 313kg of Hari Darshan refined rice bran oil stored in reused tins and around 80 litres of Gopi brand oil with unclear batch numbers were seized. Samples were collected in both cases. “Raids will continue across the district in the run-up to Holi. Strict action will be taken against those found compromising on food safety standards,” Kumar said.
