Lucknow: Taking steps to reduce carbon footprint, Lucknow Cantonment Board Environment has signed an MOU with a private firm to promote environment friendly products such as polylactic acid (PLA) made bottles, pens, folders and compostable garbage bags, that break down naturally and don’t harm the environment.Following the MOU, Balrampur Bioyug, the green-products division of Balrampur Chini Mills, received an order from Lucknow Cantonment Board for the compostable products.Lucknow Cantt will be one of the first defence institutions to formally integrate compostable PLA solutions into operational use.The order was placed ahead of the commissioning of a PLA manufacturing unit being built at Kumbhi in Lakhimpur Kheri. Abhishek Rathour, CEO, Lucknow Cantonment Board, said, “We are committed to reduce single-use plastics.” Avantika Saraogi, executive director, Balrampur Chini Mills, said, “The adoption of compostable PLA products demonstrates that sustainable material is credible, performance-oriented solutions for large-scale institutional use.”
