28.3 lakh have votes in Chennai this election

Chennai: A total of 28.3 lakh voters will be eligible to vote in the 2026 assembly elections as per the final electoral roll released by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Monday after the special intensive revision (SIR). One-third of city voters’ names have been deleted from the previous electoral roll, which was frozen at 40 lakh voters in Oct 2025.GCC commissioner J Kumaragurubaran released the roll in the presence of political party representatives at Ripon Buildings. The total electorate increased by 2,51,260 compared to the draft roll published on Dec 19, which listed 25,79,676 voters (12,47,690 men, 13,31,243 women, and 743 third-gender voters).Out of the 28,30,936 total voters across 4,079 polling stations in the final roll, 13,65,763 were men, 14,64,344 were women, and 829 were third-gender voters. A total of 2,70,573 voters were newly added (1,27,418 men, 1,43,053 women, and 102 third-gender persons), while 19,313 names were deleted (9,345 men, 9,952 women, and 16 third-gender persons) after special camps were conducted following the publication of the draft roll.Among constituencies, Perambur had the highest number of voters at 2,22,792, followed by Velachery with 2,11,691 voters. Harbour had the lowest electorate at 1,16,896, followed by Egmore with 1,34,879 voters.In the state, Sholinganallur constituency, which falls under Chengalpet district, had the highest number of voters at 5.36 lakh, with 2.62 lakh men and 2.74 lakh women, followed by Avadi in Tiruvallur with 4.28 lakh voters, including 2.09 lakh men and 2.19 lakh women voters.To check names on the list, visit https://www.eci.gov.in/, click on ‘search your name in e-roll’, and narrow the search using name, EPIC number, or mobile number. People can also download their booth slip from the website. New voters may also apply for Form 6, and their names will be included in the next draft electoral roll after the elections.
