Man on his scooter loses control and falls in drain in Ghaziabad, dies

Ghaziabad: A 48-year-old man died after allegedly losing control of his scooter and falling into a drain on GT Road in the Patel Nagar area under the Sihani Gate police station limits on Sunday night.Senior officials, including the ACP Nandgram and municipal officers, visited the site and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby areas. No evidence of a collision with another vehicle was found. Inspection of the scooter also did not reveal any signs of impact. Prima facie, police suspect that the scooter may have lost balance due to a plastic bucket placed on it, leading to the fall. The deceased was identified as Shankar Lal Garg, a resident of Dasna Gate. His identity was confirmed by his elder brother.Police received information at 11.54am about an unidentified man who had fallen along with his scooter near the Royal Green Hotel in Patel Nagar and was taken to MMG Hospital by passers-by. Preliminary inquiry found a resident, Ritesh Ghosh, noticed a scooter lying on the roadside. As its lights were still on, he checked and found an injured man nearby. With the help of others, he shifted the man to MMG Hospital and informed the police. He was later declared dead on arrival.Based on the scooter’s registration, Family members told police that Garg usually closed his shop at night, disposed of rubbish, visited Shri Kesari Mata Temple for prayers, and then returned home. Police said legal proceedings are underway at MMG Hospital under the supervision of the Patel Nagar outpost in-charge SI Pramod Kumar. “Further investigation is in progress,” Kumar said.
