Aizawl: Altogether 38,059 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh are taking shelter in Mizoram as on Feb 5, state home minister K Sapdanga informed the state legislative assembly on Monday.In a written reply to question from the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) member VL Zaithanzama, the home minister said biometric enrolment of refugees from Myanmar are being undertaken by the district administrations of all the 11 districts with 93.04% of the process being completed as on Feb 5. He expressed hope that the entire process will be completed soon. Sapdanga also said the biometric enrolment of refugees from Bangladesh is underway.Meanwhile, state home department officials said there has been little progress in the biometric enrolment process as the progress has come to a standstill in six districts since Jan even as the districts, except Siaha, have less number of refugees.
